Shopping in Santa Teresa

Westfield Oakridge Mall

Santa Teresa is blessed with the second biggest mall in San Jose with over 200 retail stores, a Century 20 Movie Theatre and three large anchor department stores: Target (in lieu of defunct Montgomery Ward), Macy’s (newly expanded) and Sears. The Oakridge mall was recently revived with the set up of a Nordstrom Rack in October 2009. It has a decent selection of chain restaurants such as BJ Brewhouse, Cheesecake Factory. P.F. Chang’s, California Pizza Kitchen, Bucca di Beppo and a great and modern food court. Oakridge Mall retail space is geared in particular towards teenagers (Forever 21, Hollister, Aeropostale, Vans, Lucky Brand Jeans, etc) which account for a large portion of daily visitors but also includes a few high end stores such as Coach, Swarovski and Ethan Allen. Overall, a clean, spacious and kid-friendly neighborhood in Santa Teresa with a Family Lounge and a Kid Play space on the west side of the mall. Do not forget to check out the Apple retail store and its friendly and knowledgeable crowd of ‘Genius’ advisers and enjoy long opening hours of the Post Office (until 9pm every day except Sunday).

Opposite Oakridge Mall, one of the largest commercial areas of Santa Teresa (over 350,000 square feet of retail space) which includes a Kohl’s, Home Depot and Office Depot store along with a few second-tier retail chains such as Big 5 Sporting Goods and Hancock Fabrics. This shopping area is supplemented by the Santa Teresa Main St Shopping Center, across Santa Teresa Boulevard, which includes Lucky, Jamba Juice, Fedex and a decent numbers of chain restaurants (Pizza My Heart, Wasabi, Le Boulanger, etc).

Sunrise Plaza Shopping Center
628 Blossom Hill Road
San Jose, CA 95123

A mid-size mall in the middle of suburban Santa Teresa accessible through the Blossom Hill Road exit from Highway 85, mostly made up of chain restaurants ranging from Juicy Burger, Marie Callender’s, KFC to Outback Steakhouse and City Espresso Gourmet Cafe. The largest non-food retail store in the mall is a large Sports Authority branch, usually not that busy given its remote location.

Santa Teresa Square Shopping Center
5584 Santa Teresa Boulevard
San Jose, CA 95123

An L-shaped strip mall built around a Nob Hill Food store, completely renovated a few years ago. A very pleasant area opposite to Santa Teresa High School with a few Asian restaurants, a Mojo Burger  (featured in Best of Silicon Valley Metro in San Jose in 2010) and a busy Starbucks Coffee shop. Very popular among Santa Teresa convenience shoppers and afficionados of take-out food.

My favorite restaurant in Santa Teresa and one of the best restaurants in San Jose. Opened since 1997, this place enjoys a very spacious dining area and also includes an oyster bar, a sushi bar, as well as a cosy cocktail bar and lounge area with a TV and fireplace. Everything is according to the slogan : "Seafood at its Freshest". I recommend in particular the Mahi-Mahi and the White Tiger shrimps with fresh scallops and bacon. A private dining area is also available for large parties and corporate events.

Yum Yum Donuts

San Jose, CA 95123

Open round the clock, the Santa Teresa branch of California's most famous doughnut chain (founded in L.A. in 1971) lives up to its expectations: good selection at any time of day, always fresh and fluffy, not too sweet, priced right.  Conveniently located close to Blossom Hill Road exit on Highway 85, a great place to stop on your way to the office in the morning to get the required sugar & coffee boost.
